Before I died, ah, before I died
I was another man, you see,
But he is gone, his shadow lives on
Inside my memory.

I remember the girl whose life I marred
With lies of her pregnancy.
I remember the boy I stabbed
In the arm for all to see.

Anger, bitterness, self-loathing
This was the lot I had.
But I felt that all was justified,
It wasn't me that was bad.

Oh, I could blame my demon
Say it had power over me
But, all it did was talk
The choice was mine, you see.

There were bullies in the playground
And a bully in my head
Bullies on the telephone
I wished that I were dead.

I had no playmates, no friends
No-one but my brother.
But I saw him as a rival
For love from father and mother.

By the age of twenty-one
You would have thought me mad.
Psychosis, schizophrenia
And paranoia were all I had.

And so it was in '78
On the 5th of November
I died, and I was born again
Truly, a night to remember.
