 Post subject: Too Happy - as promised

TOO HAPPY

I was too happy...they hated it
They put me down and made me sit
Alone and still, so they could speak
Without my constant flapping beak

I was too happy...it made them rage
They said this life is not a stage
For me to show off every day
And scream the words I want to say

I was too happy...they got upset
And so did everyone I met
Who couldn't seem to understand
My thoughts were rich, not pale and bland

I was too happy...they didn't know
Their nasty ways would make me go
They thought my life was theirs to hound
If I was weak, I'd stay around

I was too happy...they didn't care
They found my ways too hard to bear
Such awful things were said in spite
To try to make me lose my fight

I was too happy...I said 'no more'
And couldn't wait to shut the door
Behind me as I ran away
To live this life my own mad way

I was too happy...I gladly went
Regretting all the time I'd spent
With people who can't stand to live
Without the praise and love I give

I was too happy...I pitied those
Who wanted me to share their woes
And wanted me to take the blame
For all they did that caused them shame

I was too happy...I liked it though
I wasn't sad, I wasn't low
Without the constant putting down
My face just couldn't wear a frown

I was too happy...I turned away
I muted everything they'd say
My head was full of only me
My heart was under lock and key

I am too happy...I just can't stop
So full of fun right to the top
New friends, new outlook, all things new
The mirror told me 'this is you'

I am too happy...it's me, it's me
And losing them has set me free
To skip though years without the pain
While all their bitter lives remain

People have a go at me for being too cheerful.

Instead of discovering the joy, peace and contentment I have, they seem to want to infect others with their boredom, irritability and despondency.

Glad you found the poem Tanza,

It's reassuring to see that us loons dragged ourselves our of 'their' world and into our own! And a much better place it is too :D

When you(one) come(s) out the other side you(one) know(s) that there's no such thing as 'too happy.' (unless someone's taken too many illegal substances and are just being a tit!) Being content, happy etc is a learned state of mind, just as much as all the negative states that have been mentioned in this forum. We can all learn to be responsible for our own states, and effect changes.
I was a very different person years ago. Insecure, worried, lacking in confidence, believing every piece of sh** that people said to me, caring about what other people thought about me without even knowing what I thought myself. I was not a happy person. But I wanted to be. I wanted my inner voice to just say something nice to me for once! Tell me I'm brilliant, tell me I'm right, anything!!
Then,one day as I was moaning away a good friend of mine asked me to "imagine that your mind is a bus. Now who's driving it?'
I had to answer 'Well, I am.'
Reply, 'If you don't like the route you're on, learn to change it.'
So I did. And it was surprisingly easy.

Now I drive my bus the way I want to. I check my route every day. If there's rocks in the road, I move them. If the windscreens misted up, I clean it. If I get lost, I stop or ask for directions.
Now I understand that our environment can challenge our state of mind and often does. We don't have any control over that. We do have control over how we react. We have control over HOW we think.
After all, how many of us actually think about how we think?


As a character in one of my favourite films once said 'you have to look with better eyes than that'.

One day I hope that all the people out there that are trapped in unconsciously learned, bad patterns of thinking will learn that too.

Upwards and onwards :D

I swing readily between happy and bleak and am definately fighting the good fight and driving my own bus these days. No one said driving was easy! :?

I can't drive...fifty lessons and two instructors...it's not happening.

As soon as I go past a signpost, I forget what it says. I have no sense of direction, and lost my car a number of times in various carparks. Sometimes, I couldn't even remember which carpark I'd left it in. Parking it down random backstreets was always a mistake. ''What's the name of the road you parked it in?'' ..... <blank look>

According to the rules, roundabouts are there for a purpose and not for having fun...going round and round. They are round...I go round...what's the harm? So what if I can only do ten-point-turns? Who cares, as long as I don't hit anyone!

Both instructors said I talk too much and neither would put me in for a test. Did you know...incessant laughing while doing more than 30 is, apparently, dangerous?...cheeky feckers.

Witch don't change.

One day you'll realize your life does actually contain people that really do like you. You may not even have noticed that they are around you already. You will still be trying too find even a faint glimmer of appreciation from people who just aren't equipped to give it...and never will. I promise you...you wont spend the rest of your life trying to find the one percent of good in people who are ninety-nine percent bad. You don't have to pull yourself together, or snap out of it. You will, one day, work out for yourself that you don't really need the people you think you do. You'll look around you and think...I'm not on the outside trying to get in...I'm already stuck on the inside and I'm getting out!!

Only you can come to that conclusion. You will...and then you can kick ass! I'll hold them all down if you like!
