*He smiles*.

Thank you Princess. We will play at your wedding if asked.

*He turns to the band and begins to conduct them*.

Ah. My Lady Princess. I see you are enjoying the band. I hope the wine is to your taste. I'm sorry to keep you waiting.

Remus darling. It is such a pleasure to see you.

*Philomena gives a dazzling smile and offers her hand.*

The wine is exquisite and the band delightful. I do hope you will reward them well for my pleasure.

The band has been rewarded. No longer do they have to play on the festering streets of Gollema.

*He kisses the mermaid's hand*.

The wine is not Rhinehart Sheldon. I specifically asked for that.

*He shakes his head*.

Not good enough. But my apologies for the servant's clumsiness.

*He sits down at the table beside her and places his hand on the mermaid's knee and pats it*.

You are looking very well My Lady. I am pleased you have come to see me. Is all happy with you?

How could I not look well when you have been taking such good care of me.

*She gives a little sigh.*

Things are not as happy as I would wish... I am sure you know about this duel that Kalvos must fight? I am most unhappy about it, especially as his opponents seem to be chosen purposely to distress me.

*The mermaid pouts then puts her hand on Casson's.*

But my heart feels lighter for seeing you.

I’ve been doing my best. You’re a very important guest.

*He pats her knee again and pours Philomena another glass of wine*.

I’ve heard about this duel.

*He places his other hand on top of hers*.

Kalvos has two knights to fight against so I’ve heard. It was going to be five. But changes have been made by Sir Robert.

*He smiles and looks at Philomena’s chest*.

It’s good that your heart feels lighter.

Sir Robert is a kind friend and has much influence. I am a lucky mermaid to have such friends.

*The mermaid sips the wine and leans closer towards Remus Casson.*

But have you heard who he is to fight? Regar is a friend of his, and a knight of unblemished reputation. Surely it is not right that they are made to fight.

*She shakes her head sadly.*

It makes me very sad... Can you blame Kalvos for falling in love with me? I am such a hot blooded, passionate mermaid... It is easy to get swept away.

*The mermaid drinks more wine.*

Still I am grateful for what Sir Robert has done for me. He has done all he can but his influence is not limitless.

*He pours himself some wine*.

The servants are slow tonight. I should take a whip to them. They should be pouring the wine. Not you or I. I scrape them up and give them a roof over their heads and they get lazy.

*He moves in closer to the mermaid*.

You like the intimate nature of my castle. If Kalvos is killed you can come and live here with me, I can look after you.

*He strokes the mermaid’s thigh*.

I’ll order in more wine. Whilst we wait for food.

*He smiles*.

He’s fighting Regar? Regar is one of the knights that interferes greatly with the plans I have made. I’ve been trying to ship slaves over from Kanara and he has blocked me at every turn. Wretched. Let’s hope Kalvos does defeat him. Regar is a menace.

*He grins*.

I can’t blame Kalvos for falling in love with you. He’s got delicious taste. You are a prize dish My Lady.

*He takes a deep breath*.

Devlok. I think Kalvos is dueling a knight named Devlok.

*Philomena shakes her head.*

No. If Kalvos is killed I shall return to the Dudrassa and sever all ties with Grimney... But surely you could help Kalvos win? A man of your power... That would be looking after me.

*She smiles and taps Remus lightly on the nose.*

And I am always so grateful when someone looks after me.

*The mermaid drinks more wine as Casson continues to stroke her leg.*

Who is Deviok? I have so little understanding of all this. It would be much simpler if Cousin Eleanour would make an exchange for Kalvos. I mean, she has hundreds of knights, why can't I just have one? You would think the High Council would be happy to strengthen the bonds between Grimney and the Aquitanii. We rule the waves, you rule the lands. Could anything be more glorous than the power we could jointly wield? Who makes these decisions about the duel?

*She sighs.*

Alas it seems as though the Council take a route to weaken their hold on other lands.

I want Regar out of the way. So I can help you. It’s normal for dueling knights to meet before a duel. To share one final drink. Perhaps you could slip a little something into our enemies glass and weaken his resolve just a little.

*He strokes Philomena’s hair*.

Regar would also still have to fight if he sustained a wound. That’s a possibility. But I could not be involved in such things. I hope you understand.

*His hand returns to Philomena’s leg*.

Devlok is fighting in the Maljoras. He’s a good warrior. I’d hate to lose him.

*He leans in very close to the mermaid*.

But our bond is very important My Lady. The High Council make our laws, the Queen simply complies by them.

*He continues to stroke the mermaid’s thigh*.

Perhaps, you should talk to the more approachable members of the High Council. I could give you a name or two.

*He drinks some more wine*.

But you have to understand the way of the knights. Absolute loyalty is asked for, and if not given, the knight must pay a heavy price. It’s all about control...

*He grins and looks at Philomena’s chest*.

And domination. More wine?
