*Lecree enters carrying a silver tray. Two large octopus are seated upon silver plates, they are deep fried and bathed in a dark plum sauce*.

*He places each plate in front of Philomena and Remius*.

Sorry for the delay. The chef is a perfectionist and such dishes take a while to prepare. He hopes you will enjoy the richness of the sauce, and the delicate texture of the octopus.

*He pours more wine for the diners, bows and exits*.

Thank you.

*Philomena picks up her fork.*

You know Remus, I really must go after this. The meal has taken so long and I want to be home by tomorrow. I will ask the handmaiden you provided to pack my things and the groom to saddle my kelpie. I have been away too long.

Not staying for dessert? But it's always a choice of sweets from the trolley. And delicious they most certainly will be.

*He kisses the mermaid's hand and cuts into the octopus and shoves a large piece into his mouth. He talks and chews*.

Meals always last a long time here My Lady. I never like to rush my food gives me wind. I like to let each course settle before the next is brought. And we've yet to play our game of chess. The Dudrassa version sounds entertaining. Although I dislike cheating.

*He smiles*.

How do you like the octopus? I can send for another if it is overdone.

*He looks across at the band*.

They're not bad. Perhaps you playing the harp might improve their sound. I should imagine you play well. Mermaids always seem to be good with music.

*He slices away another chunk of octopus and gulps down more wine*.

You should drink more.

The octopus is perfect thank you and as for dessert... Well I need to keep my hourglass figure.

*The mermaid smiles as Remus finishes his meal.*

I really must go after this. I am being missed in the mire. It has taken so long I think we shall have to play our game next time.

*She finishes her meal and wine.*

Thank you so much for everything Remus.

*Philomena stands up and kisses his forehead. *

You have been very kind and I shall return soon.

A good meal must never be rushed.

*Remus stands up and gulps down his wine*.

And it would be a tragedy to ruin a figure such as yours. I mean... It so.... Shapely.... You cannot travel alone in the mire My Lady. It's not safe.

Then perhaps you will be kind enough to furnish me with another armed escort?

*Philomena puts her arms around Casson's neck and smiles seductively.*

As you don't want my shapely figure to be carried off by outlaws...

*She let's go and laughs.*

Believe me Remus I will be safe. The mire is safe for those who know the hidden paths.

*The mermaid kisses his cheek and sashays out the room.*

I'll be back soon...to celebrate our victory.
